TopCoder Open 2009 - Going Back

So that's how it goes. I've fallen into the same trap the second consecutive year: trying to solve the medium problem when the hard problem is actually easier, and lacking some 5-10 more minutes to finish the hard problem after that. Well, better luck next time, and congratulations to crazyb0y, UdH-WiNGeR and marek.cygan!

What are your impressions of the Final round and overall of the TopCoder Open?

  1. I think you should complete the 1000 pt.. But it's ok, just an unlucky one.. :D

But people know that you still the best on algorithm competition.. :D

Anyway, whether you use paper during contest to write the algo first and then implement them or just code everything from your head? :D

  3. I think its just a misfortune for both of you. I was quite disappointed when I watched your posted semi-final video and ACRush totally failed every single solution :( And I was quite happy that you passed them all. So cheer up mate! Next event is yours :)

  6. @Petr : I think its a gamble. What if the 1000 pointer was not solvable by anyone ?? your strategy of sticking to 500p would have payed off :) so its a gamble that can go either way :)

  7. It is just a bad luck, I'm sure if you opened 900 pt problem first, you were able to solve it for at least 650pt.

    Good luck next year!

Unfortunately we cannot see you in Google jam ;-)

  8. I was fan of you in finall:) and when I see that 300 was more that 300 and all of people spent much time for it and then went to 900,I realized that previous year situation is going to repeat.

I really want to ask that Now do you think that you made a mistake(going to 600 first)?I think your confident made that you first go to 600 and 90% of time you solve all problem.

anyway I congrats you and I know that your works was great:)

  9. hey there mate
shame about the finals, you had better come back
and win what is rightfully yours, you left them for dust in the semis.
promise that you will come back next year

  13. well, everybody knows that you're the best but... TCO is not a league :). Everybody can win because the attitude of the day and specific tasks set give a chance for someone potentially weaker :). That's why I love to look at this particular contest :). And it also learns one important thing - submissiveness. it gives us an imagination of our boundaries :). Anyway, the best for you Petr.
